Filling the Unique Void of Christian Sports Media
A conversation with Sports Spectrum marketing manager Leah Montgomery
We talk to a lot of athletes and coaches for the work we do at Sports Spectrum. Something we hear quite often is that athletes love to share about their faith, they just don’t always get to do so. A lot of times, when they do, their comments aren’t aired or printed.
Sports Spectrum stands in that gap and gives those in the sports world an outlet to share their faith openly. It’s amazing to hear some of the stories these folks have that, a lot of times, we get to tell for the first time.
I’ve been with Sports Spectrum since 2020, doing a mix of writing and podcast producing, and just in those three years I’ve seen our reach expand and the quality of our work improve drastically. A big reason why is Leah Montgomery, who serves as our marketing manager as well as our de facto staff photographer. All the branding and social media content you see is her creation and vision, and in many ways she has shaped the current look of Sports Spectrum.
She joins me on this week on “In No Hurry” for a conversation on where Sports Spectrum fits into the sports journalism ecosystem and how we get to fill a unique void. A lot of times we get to go deeper in stories in ways that other outlets can’t. We put together a high quality magazine with stories, devotionals and other content, and sportsspectrum.com is full of stories, videos and podcasts of Christian athletes. We’re really proud of what we do.
Aside from that, Leah shares how she got into sports media, where her passion for photography came from, and she also shares about a really cool charity event she does back home in Ohio to help families in need be able to have free professional photos done around the holidays. You can learn more about that at christmasstudio.org.
I love her story and her heart for people and the Lord.
Be sure to check out sportsspectrum.com for all the work we do there, a lot of which is done by Leah, but also check out www.leah-rachel.com for some of her personal work as well as links to all her social media.
